For many years, while I lived in Portland, I made a summertime tradition of visiting the Street of Dreams. It was something I loved even as a child. Since moving to Washington I hadn’t been able to attend and I missed it, so on a recent trip I revived that tradition and was thrilled I did. The tour was inspiring and well worth the trip.
I photographed hundreds of details and favorite spaces. These homes were large and luxurious—many felt like they were 8,000 square feet—but I still came away with plenty of practical ideas and small touches that would work in a more modest home. The scale was grand, but the design takeaways were adaptable.
Visiting was timely since we are preparing to remodel our kitchen soon and are dreaming up other projects around the house. Touring these rooms helped confirm design elements I already love and introduced fresh concepts to consider as we plan.
Over the coming weeks I’ll share more posts inspired by what I photographed, but to start I wanted to show a selection from one of my favorite houses on the tour, Mon Coeur. Its Hamptons-inspired, modern farmhouse aesthetic felt closest to my personal style—something I imagine translated to a smaller footprint someday. I felt right at home there.
Enjoy a glimpse of photos from this Hamptons-inspired modern farmhouse-style home.
