It’s almost officially the first day of fall, and I couldn’t be more excited. I’ve started giving our front porch a little seasonal refresh. We painted the deck — the same coffee-like color we used on the back deck — and added a couple of new rugs to brighten the space. The peacock wreath I made last year is still hanging on the door and looks just as good now as it did after the front door makeover. It even stayed up through the holidays and into spring. Sometimes simple persistence is the best decoration.
To add a cheerful pop of color, I filled an old rusted iron fireplace wood holder with purple mums. The rich blooms contrast nicely with the weathered metal and ground the entry with a cozy, autumnal vibe.

For a touch of whimsy, my little thrifted owl got a fall makeover with some faux autumn foliage. It’s amazing how a few simple additions can make a thrifted find feel right at home for the season.
Whether you prefer pumpkins and mums, layered textiles, or a single well-placed wreath, small changes can make a porch feel ready for crisp mornings and cozy evenings. Consider swapping out summer pillows for warmer tones, adding a textured rug, or grouping containers of seasonal blooms for instant impact. Natural materials like birch logs, branches, and dried grasses complement pots of mums or ornamental kale and bring a rustic, welcoming look.
If you’re looking for a quick, budget-friendly update: repaint or refresh your porch floor, add a runner or doormat in autumnal hues, and place a couple of containers with mums or asters at varying heights. A small bench or stool can hold a lantern or a stack of plaid blankets tied with twine. These touches invite guests in and make your home feel festive without a lot of time or expense.
How are you fallifying your porch this year?
