BHG: Fall Decorating in Blue Green, Orange, Brown
What are your Fall decorating colors?
Autumn offers a rich palette drawn from nature—leafy greens, warm browns, golden apricots, deep teals and muted grays. Those tones, whether used alone or layered together, create a cozy seasonal mood that suits a wide range of home styles.
You don’t have to stick to the classic pumpkin-and-crimson look to bring autumn into your home. Blend seasonal accents with the colors and furnishings you already love. The result can feel fresh and modern while still referencing traditional fall warmth.
Right now I’m especially fond of combinations that mix browns, teals, soft grays and apricot tones. Together these colors say “autumn” without feeling overly literal—a modern-traditional approach that works in living rooms, bedrooms and entryways alike.

Charcoal gray paired with teal gives an elegant, seasonal contrast.

Aqua and brown create a calm, cozy bedroom palette for cooler months.

Accents in apricot and warm golds bring a bright, seasonal touch without overwhelming a neutral base.

Greens and browns echo natural elements and work well for hearths and mantels.

Mix neutrals like white and tan with deeper accents such as eggplant, rusty red and gold for layered sophistication.

Turquoise, red and brown can create a lively yet grounded look—great for rooms that need a bit of punch.

Soft blues paired with warm browns make a soothing, cozy bedroom scheme for autumn evenings.

Neutrals like white and cream provide a calm backdrop; add pops of seasonal color for visual interest.
How to use fall color thoughtfully
Start with what you already own. A neutral sofa or bedspread becomes instantly seasonal with a few well-chosen throws, pillows and decorative objects in fall tones. Use texture—wool, knit, suede, woven baskets and natural elements like dried branches or pinecones—to reinforce the season without overhauling your decor.
Balance bold colors with quieter neutrals. For example, a teal pillow looks striking against charcoal gray, while a single apricot accent can brighten a mostly neutral space. Repeat a color in two or three places within a room to create cohesion: a cushion, a small decorative tray and a framed print can be enough.
Don’t be afraid to mix unexpected hues. Teal with brown, aqua with rust, or eggplant with gold can all feel very autumnal when paired with natural textures and warm lighting. The key is restraint—choose a dominant neutral, then layer two or three accent colors for depth.
Your turn
Do you add touches of fall color to warm up your home each year, or do you prefer to cozy the space in other ways? What colors do you live with year-round, and which ones do you bring out in the autumn? Small seasonal changes often make the biggest difference in how a room feels.
Note: seasonal events and online gatherings can be a fun way to share ideas and inspiration with others who love to decorate for fall.
