I’m ready to tackle more improvements around our house. I have a long list of ideas, but today I want to focus on one of our bathroom projects. We have two bathrooms that need attention. You may remember the vintage mint-and-pink master bathroom I shared a while back. I’ve been brainstorming many different directions for updating that room — from a light refresh to a full demolition and rebuild — and it’s easy to get overwhelmed by possibilities.
Sometimes I imagine doing a small makeover, other times I picture starting completely over. I’ve even considered adding a main-floor powder room and leaving the vintage bathroom as-is, or reconfiguring the whole main floor. That mint-and-pink bathroom looked fine in our initial photos, but it’s showing more wear every day.
I want to make the right choice. The pandemic changed a lot for many of us, and it’s made decision-making trickier — should we pause plans, move, or commit to updating this home? I tend to overthink, but I also value taking time to make thoughtful decisions for our family and our home.
Given the current season, it feels sensible to delay major projects. Still, I’m eager to make progress, so I’ve picked a practical first step to get things moving.
For now, we’re excited to begin a DIY makeover of our basement bathroom.

The basement bathroom feels dated and uninspired, but structurally it’s sound. That means relatively simple updates — fresh paint, new lighting, updated mirrors and faucets, and a few thoughtful accessories — will dramatically improve its appearance and functionality.
This is the bathroom on the basement level I mentioned in a recent peek at our basement. It currently serves my daughter Courtney while she’s living here, and it doubles as our guest bathroom. Once we finish the basement makeover, we’ll have a pleasant space to use while we consider changes upstairs, which is a practical advantage.
Over the coming weeks I’ll share DIY bathroom design ideas, inspiration, and the mood board and plans for this project. We’ll document the entire makeover here on the blog and through Instagram stories, so you can follow along with the process.
Lately I’ve been using Instagram stories more to share everyday moments, behind-the-scenes updates, and quick chats. It’s a fun way to connect, and I’ll be doing a short walkthrough on stories next week to show the bathroom in its current state.
Have you completed a DIY bathroom makeover recently? I’d love to hear about your experience — it’s been a while since I updated a bathroom, and I’m excited to get started!
