Skip the stress of travel and create a staycation spot you’ll enjoy all summer. Focus on one outdoor space—a tiny deck, side yard, or porch—and transform it into a relaxing summer getaway right at home.
We turned our small bedroom deck into a tiny vacation destination using pieces we already had plus a few new finds from Wayfair.
Below I’ll show you our Tiny Vacation Summer Destination and share five simple tips so you can create your own peaceful retreat.

Why I Love Small Transformations
I believe in creating a life you love right where you live.
One of my favorite summer strategies is to capture the mood of a vacation without leaving home. Design a staycation spot you’ll want to use all season long.
We styled our little bedroom deck with items from Wayfair and ended up with a charming, approachable space that feels like a mini getaway—no travel required.
Small updates can inspire larger projects, but they also work perfectly as quick, one-day makeovers for outdoor areas.
Here’s a look at our Tiny Vacation Destination and five easy tips to build your own.

1. Start with an Outdoor Rug
An outdoor rug instantly anchors the area and defines your “vacation zone.” It adds comfort underfoot and helps a small deck feel finished and intentional.

A neutral patterned rug brings texture and warmth—perfect for making the space inviting for relaxing, reading, or a quiet cup of coffee.

2. Set Up a Bistro Table and Chairs
A small table and two chairs evoke the charm of a bed-and-breakfast and make the space feel like an experience. It’s perfect for morning coffee, solo lunches, or evening tea.
Our deck is tiny, but that’s part of its appeal—it feels cozy and special. It’s just enough room for a laptop or a quiet moment outdoors.

I paired matching chairs with our table and add foldable bamboo director’s chairs when I want extra seating. Because they fold up, they’re ideal for small homes and easy to store.

3. Gather Pretty Serveware
Keep a few favorite dishes, napkins, and serving pieces on hand for casual summer meals. Choosing pieces you love will encourage you to use them for spontaneous gatherings.
Even a simple rattan tray for morning coffee elevates the moment and makes the space feel thoughtful and complete.

4. Surround the Space with Planters
Use plant stands or potted plants to nestle your seating area and create a cozy, tucked-away feel. Planters add greenery and can compensate for limited landscaping around a deck.

Wicker planters that double as serving tables are especially practical in small spaces. You can remove the planter insert and use the lower tray as a side table when needed.
A portable serving cart nearby is handy for drinks, fresh flowers, or a stack of summer reads.

A small cart is versatile and fits easily into tight spaces—perfect for entertaining or everyday convenience.

5. Add Colorful Flowers
Whether you prefer tropical blooms, cottage-garden flowers, or a wild mix, colorful arrangements instantly create a vacation mood.
Bright dahlias or coral tones attract hummingbirds and bring joyful color to the space. Greenery adds softness, privacy, and life, making the area more inviting.

We’ve come to love this tiny deck—our dogs enjoy it, and so do we. With a few intentional touches, it feels like a small escape every time we step outside.

A compact destination like this can bring consistent joy throughout the summer with minimal effort.
