What a strange couple of years it’s been. This holiday season feels like the perfect time to revive favorite traditions and enjoy the simple pleasures of hosting, giving, and gathering with loved ones. Walmart has been my go-to for affordable, on-trend decor and gifts that make a new home feel warm and welcoming. Below I share the pieces I’m using to create a cozy holiday office and guest nook, plus a roundup of sources for everything featured.
Thank you Walmart for sponsoring this post.

We recently became empty nesters and moved to a sweet beach house near the San Juans. We love island life, and this is our first holiday season here. Not everything is finished, but it’s been fun to add festive touches to a few cozy corners.
This room serves as my office and a quiet retreat. I come here every day to work, read, and create. It’s a peaceful place for me, but it’s also a welcoming spot for family and overnight guests. With that in mind I created a small winter nook that feels personal and guest-ready.

I found the sweetest winter-scene flannel sheets that are incredibly cozy. They’ll stay on my guest bed for winter visitors — a nostalgic touch that reminds me of the flannel sheets we always bought for our kids when they were little. The reversible plaid pillow covers are soft and versatile; they switch to a solid side for a different look.

I love these neutral wood bead garlands. Instead of buying holiday-only items, I prefer multi-purpose pieces that can be used year-round. These beads have a slightly beachy feel that suits our new home and will be useful for future events like a wedding. They look boutique-level but are budget-friendly.

The lamb’s ear garland is soft and pretty — a versatile accent that works on a table, mantel, or around a window. It’s an understated, elegant piece that feels appropriate for the holidays yet can be used any time of year.

A simple way to bring holiday greenery into a room is to tuck branches or faux stems into a basket. I picked up dipped white seagrass baskets this fall and they’ve been so useful — functional, affordable, and pretty. They’re the kind of piece you can leave out year-round and quickly style for the season.

This tabletop pine tree arrived in a small basket, which made it easy to place anywhere. I strung it with battery-operated copper fairy lights that I use throughout the house — they add a soft, cozy glow to bookcases and vignettes. The lights have multiple settings and a timer, which is perfect for low-effort ambiance.

Chunky woven tree pillows on the window seat add texture and a festive motif without feeling over the top. They’re well-made and stylish; I swapped the included flatter insert for a fluffier pillow to get that full, luxurious look. These kinds of on-trend pieces make a room feel curated without a big price tag.

I laughed at a meme that said, “I know someone who would LOVE this! … ME!” I’m guilty of that. I enjoy picking out cozy items for myself, guests, and gift recipients — throws, slippers, and other small comforts that instantly make a space feel inviting.

Settling into our new home during the holidays has been such a joy. Small touches — wreaths, garlands, cozy textiles, and soft lighting — make this place feel warm and special. Thank you for following along as we make it our own.
