I’m drawn to the small, charming corners that give a home personality. Older houses often have delightful nooks, quirky stairwells, and tucked-away pockets of space that add character and atmosphere. Our current home is a fairly standard layout, with rooms that are mostly rectangular, but we do have one little area tucked beside the half wall and pillars that divide the kitchen from the family room (and a similar spot between the dining room and front room).
At first glance, that corner seems too small to be useful. It almost feels like a place you’d leave empty so the room doesn’t feel crowded. Yet I love the idea of adding a touch of personality and function to a single corner. A well-placed item can create a cozy, unexpected finishing touch without overwhelming the space. I try not to fill every corner, because that can feel cluttered, but placing a plant, a small table, or a single chair in the right spot can make the whole room feel more inviting.
Do you have a small, overlooked corner that could use a bit more charm or character? It’s fun to watch for the right piece that can transform even the tiniest spaces in your home.
I bought this table years ago (I believe it was from Lamps Plus), and it’s become one of my favorites. I appreciate furniture that has visual interest, something I enjoy seeing as I pass by. This table is particularly fun from the side, so I’m glad one side faces the room where it can be admired.
PS. Nice to be back after a brief absence! I had an extremely busy week wrapping up some exciting projects (I’ll share more in the coming week) and then my husband and I spent the weekend in Portland for a conference. Thank you to everyone who kept the blog lively with your comments and stories on the last post — your participation means a lot!
