Since I first shared my daily housekeeping routines on the blog years ago, I’ve noticed readers have a lot of the same questions and curiosities.
It’s no surprise that housekeeping is one of the most frequently asked topics. Decorating and personal style are fun to discuss, but everyday cleaning is part of everyone’s life.
People ask about specifics—how to keep sinks, appliances, rugs, hardwood floors, tile, upholstery, furniture, and counters clean; what my cleaning routines look like (how often I clean and what I focus on); strategies for keeping rooms tidy; how to live with family members who tend to be messy; how we manage pets and dirt; and which products I use—especially non-toxic or healthier options. Other common questions are whether I have a housekeeper and how I handle clutter and organization.

I’ve answered many of these in books and blog posts. I also have a brand new book on organizing that comes out April 3, which I’m excited about. I’ll share more about it soon. Over the years I’ve replied to countless reader emails and social media questions about housekeeping and organizing.
I’m not a perfect housekeeper. My husband helps with some tasks, and while I don’t have an official housekeeper (I’d love that someday), we manage as a busy household.
We have dogs and teenage boys, people coming and going, two businesses to run, and we cook most meals at home. Like everyone, we deal with clutter, dust, dirt, and the daily mess of family life. Despite that, we aim to keep our home reasonably clean most of the time.

My motto is simple: I want a “clean enough” house.
What does “clean enough” mean? I keep some high standards for certain areas, but I don’t expect perfection in every corner of the home. There are things I can live with and a few things I won’t compromise on. I try to be practical and laid back where possible.
I’ve described many of my housekeeping approaches in my books, yet I know readers still have more questions. Because housekeeping comes up so often, I’m considering sharing more detailed tips and routines here on the blog in an ongoing housekeeping series. Would you be interested in that? I also plan to share everyday housekeeping moments and quick tips on my Instagram stories for anyone who follows along.
