A small lamp for a bookshelf or countertop can brighten an otherwise dim corner. This mini opal glass lamp is the ideal size for compact spots, and it’s quite beautiful. Pair it with a color-changing dimmable bulb to control warmth and mood.
Hello friends — Courtney here. I’m settling into my new apartment with my husband and have been working on cozying up little corners. Today I want to share a small decor find that solved a tricky lighting problem in our living room.
Are you looking for a small lamp for a bookshelf or countertop?
We needed a mini lamp for a bookshelf where the top shelf sits low and most lamps would crowd the space. It was harder to find the right height than I expected. After searching, I found a mini opal glass lamp that’s only 10 inches tall — the perfect fit.
The lamp arrived today and I love it — mouth-blown opal glass with a milk-glass look and very solid quality.
If you have a small spot that needs gentle, warm light, this compact lamp is a great option. It adds both style and function without overwhelming the shelf.

I found other mini lamps that were short, but many grew too tall once a shade was added. This one hits the sweet spot for height and proportion. We also have an even shorter glass lamp we use on another shelf, so I was happy to find a similar style to coordinate throughout the space.

Try a color-changing lightbulb
A fun tip: the lamp looks beautiful when it’s off thanks to its milk-glass appearance, but installing a color-changing dimmable bulb brings extra versatility. With a remote control you can adjust brightness and color temperature so the white shade doesn’t read too cool at night.
You can use the bulb to tint the shade and create different moods — from warm amber to soft pastel hues. There are even modes that cycle between colors for a playful effect.

I especially like the warm orange-yellow setting for cozy evenings — it gives the shelf a soft, inviting glow. The remote makes it easy to switch tones depending on the moment.

The white shade is elegant on its own, but the colored bulb adds versatility when you want a different ambiance. It’s a simple upgrade that makes the lamp feel more personal and functional.

An accidental but happy match: the lamp complements a hand-blown glass diffuser on the top shelf, which ties the look together. Small coordinated touches like that make shelves feel thoughtfully styled.

If you need a subtle light for a bookshelf, side table, or countertop, a small opal glass lamp with a color-changing bulb is an easy way to add warmth, personality, and layered lighting to a small space.
