I love chairs. Chairs with personality brighten a room and brighten my mood. Over the years I’ve collected more than a few, and honestly I often have far too many chairs in the house. Lately I’ve been lending some to our church, so our home feels a touch under-furnished — which conveniently gives me the excuse to browse for new pieces. Giving things away somehow makes it easier to welcome something new, and I admit I enjoy that cycle.

Our dining room recently got new hardwood floors. The photo above shows the space before we installed the wood, when carpet (layered with a seagrass rug) still covered the floor. The transformation has been dramatic and I keep discovering how much I enjoy the new look.
Have I mentioned lately how much I love my new hardwood floors?
Lowe’s handled the installation and did a terrific job; I couldn’t be happier with how the floors turned out. My plan for today is to clear away the construction clutter that piled up in the dining room over the past few weeks and put the house back together. It feels like forever since I had a truly tidy room. Once the boxes and supplies are tucked away, I’ll take some new photos so you can see how the floors look in both the living room and dining room.
We removed the kitchen table and chairs during our kitchen redo because the space couldn’t comfortably fit everything. Since most of our rooms are on the smaller side, we’re intentionally simplifying and paring down furniture. Two dining tables — one in the kitchen and one in the dining room — felt excessive for everyday use. Because the dining room sits right off the kitchen, it now serves as our main sit-down eating spot, which allowed us to forgo a full-sized kitchen table. I do have a plan for casual kitchen dining that I’ll share later.
I’m leaning toward a relaxed, café-like vibe rather than a formal dining room aesthetic for this house. I enjoy the playful character of the chairs shown in the collage; they work well in a variety of settings and bring an approachable, lived-in feel to the space. We discovered these styles at One Kings Lane — they carry a wide selection of chairs and other furniture if you’re hunting for something similar.
