Over the past few years I’ve been collecting fishing baskets, and several readers asked about the one you saw in my kitchen. I thought I’d share a bit about my small collection and how I use these charming pieces around the house.
You can often find similar styles in secondhand shops if you enjoy hunting for vintage finds, or search for comparable options through online marketplaces and stores.
My first fishing basket was tucked into the back of a local vintage shop. I didn’t know what it was called then, but the shape and personality immediately stood out.
Baskets are great for both decorating and organizing, and these fishing baskets bring extra character and a coastal, rustic vibe that feels intentional and cozy.

One of our larger baskets hangs in the mudroom, and my husband discovered it’s perfect for storing the dogs’ supplements. The long handle makes it ideal to hang on a hook, and it adds instant charm to an ordinary wall.

The basket I used to display apples in a recent shelf styling post moves around the house frequently. It’s useful for hiding less attractive items or elevating everyday things so they look curated.

These baskets also work beautifully with plants or fresh flowers. I like the unexpected contrast of organic greenery against the woven texture — it softens a space and feels effortless.

One basket was hung on our door with a sturdy rope and filled with plants for a seasonal porch display. To protect the basket, line it with a plastic bag or place flowers inside a jar or glass before setting them in.

I love the texture, shape, and versatility these baskets offer. They add warmth and interest whether used for storage, styling shelves, or displaying seasonal decor.

I’ve even used them as a neat way to store extra toilet paper in our powder bath, where it looks decorative instead of cluttered.
You can find several similar basket styles in my shop if you’d like to add one to your home.
Happy decorating!
