Looking for inspiration for a home refresh? This August I’m joining three blogging friends for a fun series we’re calling Makeover in a Month. Every Friday in August we’ll share a new progress post — today we’re launching the series and I’m excited to reveal the plan for my space: the basement bathroom.
My goal is to transform this dated, drab bathroom into a spunky cottage-charm powder room over the next few weeks, using mostly what already exists in the room. I want the result to feel intentional and refreshed without a full demolition.

What to expect: each participant will post weekly updates, so you’ll see the other bloggers’ first projects today and follow along as we each complete a small series of changes. While some of the group may already be underway, my schedule is a bit more relaxed — my first hands-on project in this bathroom will start in the next few days and I’ll share that progress next Friday.
Today I’m sharing the bathroom mood board to show the general direction. The mood board guides the vision, but the plan is flexible — we may tweak details as the work progresses. This is a simple makeover rather than a full remodel: the focus is on achievable updates most homeowners can do themselves in a short timeframe, with minimal hiring of professionals.
Simple changes can make a big difference. For this refresh we’ll add new lighting, replace faucets, paint walls and update the existing vanity. I’m also considering a stenciled accent to add a little extra character. Nothing extravagant — just thoughtful touches to lift the whole space.
We could replace the vanity and countertop for a completely new look, but that’s a larger project we may save for later. The existing floor and shower tile are good quality and will remain, so we’ll work with what’s there. I’m eager to see how much personality we can add without removing everything.
On paper this seems straightforward, but as the list grows I realize there’s plenty to do. Can we finish in the timeline? You’ll see how the first project turns out next Friday. I usually avoid high-pressure challenges like the One Room Challenge, but this collaborative series is a fun, friendly way to tackle a focused transformation.
Each of the four participants will provide weekly updates. In three weeks we’ll share final reveals showing the full extent of our makeovers. I’ll document the bathroom’s transformation from its current state to the reveal planned for the last Friday in August.
Ready to be inspired and maybe take on a few projects of your own this month? Let’s go!
