I just wanted my house to smell like Anthropologie.
If you want your house to smell like Anthropologie (who doesn’t love that Volcano candle?), read on!
As a long-time fan of the Anthropologie stores, I used to inhale that signature scent every time I stepped inside. For years I bought their candles and burned them often because the aroma felt like home. A few years ago I chose to stop burning scented candles and to avoid synthetic fragrances for health reasons. Removing those products from our home has been one of the best choices for our well-being, but I did miss that warm, welcoming scent.
Determined to recreate those familiar notes without synthetic ingredients, I began experimenting with essential oils. My early attempts were promising but not quite right. After more testing with my daughters, we finally developed diffuser blends that closely match two of my favorite Anthropologie scents: Volcano and Sweet Vanilla Cinnamon.

We tested our blends side-by-side with the actual Anthropologie Volcano and Sweet Vanilla Cinnamon candles. The results were so close that I no longer miss burning candles at all. I actually prefer these natural, plant-based scents — they feel cleaner and healthier, and they lift the mood of our home.
Below are the diffuser recipes we refined and now use regularly. If you prefer a more subtle scent or are using the blend in a small room, simply reduce the number of drops to suit your space.
Anthropologie-Inspired Volcano Essential Oil Diffuser Recipe
Anthropologie describes their Volcano scent as tropical fruits with sugared oranges, lemons, limes, and a hint of exotic green notes. This blend aims to capture that bright, green-fruity profile.
We used this formula in a Desert Mist diffuser. It’s a fairly bold mix to mirror the strong throw of the candle; scale back if you want something lighter.
- 5 drops lemon
- 5 drops lime
- 3 drops orange
- 2 drops grapefruit
- 2 drops northern lights black spruce
- 1 drop bergamot
Use fewer drops for smaller rooms or a softer scent.

Anthropologie-Inspired Sweet Vanilla Cinnamon Diffuser Recipe
Warm, cozy, and slightly spicy — this blend recreates the comforting vanilla-cinnamon feeling of the candle without synthetic additives.
- 3 drops vanilla
- 1 drop cinnamon bark
- 1 drop nutmeg
- Tip: increase drops for larger rooms or a stronger aroma.

These two blends are the ones we reach for most often. They offer a natural, toxin-free way to enjoy layered, familiar fragrances in your home. Try them as written first, then tweak the proportions to match your personal preference and the size of your room.
Using essential oils has become part of our daily routine for many reasons beyond scent: better sleep, calm during stressful moments, natural cleaning support, and a pleasant home atmosphere. If you’re new to diffusing, start with small amounts and increase until you find the balance that works for you and your family.
When you try these blends, take a picture of your diffuser and share how your home smells — celebrating simple, natural comfort can brighten the day for everyone in the house.
Have a happy day, friends!
