Are you searching for affordable, washable white slipcovers? That question pops up often, and I’ve been looking for a good option myself. Today I’m sharing the slipcovers I recently used on my Ikea Ektorp chairs and hoping this source might work for you too. White slipcovers may not be the first choice for cozy fall decorating, but there’s no single rule about color for fall nesting. You can make your home feel warmer and more inviting for autumn and winter with whatever palette and textures inspire you. Fall decorating is as much about mood and comfort as it is about color; I’ll share more on that in the coming weeks.

Finding affordable slipcovers
I’ve long loved white washable slipcovers, especially on our Pottery Barn sofas, so I receive many questions about where to find them. When we moved into this home last fall, it already had an Ikea Ektorp sofa and chairs with slipcovers. We passed our Pottery Barn sofa to our daughter since it was too big for this room.
We may replace furniture eventually—probably after our remodel—but for now we’re keeping the Ektorp pieces. They have a classic, comfortable shape and a cottage-style look I adore. Slipcovers are a great way to refresh existing furniture without buying new pieces, whether you buy affordable ready-made covers, have them made, or sew them yourself. In the past I’ve found Pottery Barn slipcovers for less on sites like Etsy, eBay or Facebook Marketplace, and store-model or outlet options can be good bargains too.

Decorating on a budget over time
This year has been busy with family moves, our daughter’s wedding, guests, and planning a kitchen remodel, so we haven’t done much decorating. With fall approaching, I finally felt the nesting urge and wanted to make this room feel more like home. Even though we’ll eventually change floors and make other updates, that process may take a while. Instead of waiting for everything to be perfect, I made small, affordable changes that bring me joy now. Decorating in manageable stages according to your budget and timeline is perfectly fine.
A few simple moves—bringing over our blue-and-white rug from the previous home, rearranging furniture around a round table, and adding fresh white slipcovers to the chairs—made a surprising difference. It’s amazing how rearranging and using what you already own, plus updating slipcovers, can transform a room.
I wasn’t ready to buy new furniture or invest in high-end slipcovers for pieces we might replace later, so I hunted for budget-friendly options and found slipcovers on Amazon that fit our chairs. They also make versions for other styles. I’m so glad I tried them—I truly love how they look and feel.

This affordable update refreshed the whole room and motivated me to keep going. Sometimes taking that first step is all it takes.
How do these slipcovers compare to Pottery Barn?
These white slipcovers fit, feel, and look very similar to the soft warm-white denim slipcovers I’ve loved from Pottery Barn. I’ve owned several Pottery Barn covers and appreciate that same soft feel. The covers I found include piping trim, which gives a more tailored, custom look. While I can’t promise prices will remain the same, right now they’re an economical way to refresh your seating—especially if you have chairs that will accommodate these styles.
I previously owned an IKEA slipcover for an Ektorp chair and didn’t love it, so I was pleasantly surprised that these felt so much nicer. Sometimes IKEA and Pottery Barn slipcovers can be interchangeable, but that’s not always the case, so check fit carefully for your pieces.

The room feels more like home to me with the white slipcovers. Some may wonder why I chose white as we head into fall or if we have dogs. I find white works year-round in our cottage/beach-house style and serves as a neutral base that layers well with texture, pattern, and seasonal colors.

How do you keep white slipcovers clean with dogs?
Many readers ask how we keep white furniture clean with dogs. My best tip is to use reversible blankets or throws layered over seats where pets tend to jump up. These blankets protect the slipcovers and are easily washed when needed. I recently found some lovely reversible blankets that work well on sofas, chairs, and beds and have been using them for that purpose.
A quick note: our Ikea Ektorp sofa currently has a light-blue slipcover that I love, but I don’t have a reliable source for that exact color yet. I’ll share if I find an affordable match. I’m also on the lookout for accessible slipcovers in a variety of patterns.
PS — you might notice our blue-and-white indoor/outdoor rug is back in the room and it’s a great layering piece for this style.
