Easy DIY Salt Dough Ornaments: Santa Handprint
Looking for a simple holiday craft to do with little ones? My daughter Courtney made these charming Santa handprint ornaments with her baby boy to celebrate his first Christmas. They’re heartfelt keepsakes and make thoughtful gifts for grandparents or other family members.

Simple salt dough recipe and instructions:
Ingredients:
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup table salt
1.5 cups warm water
Directions: Combine the flour, salt and warm water, mixing until a smooth dough forms. On a floured surface, roll the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Press the child’s hand gently into the dough to make a clear impression, then cut around the handprint. Use a straw or similar tool to punch a hole near the top for hanging. Arrange ornaments on a baking sheet and dry in a low oven at 200–250°F (95–120°C) for 2–4 hours, or until completely hard and dry through the center. Allow to cool fully before painting.
Painting and finishing tips: Use acrylic paints, allowing each layer to dry before adding the next. Fine details work well with a toothpick, and small facial features can be added with a fine-tip marker. Seal finished ornaments with a clear spray sealer or a water-based sealer like Mod Podge to protect the paint. Thread baker’s twine or ribbon through the hole to hang on the tree.
These ornaments are easy, inexpensive and meaningful—a lovely way to capture tiny handprints and create holiday memories that last.
