When I first discovered the “By the Sea” project by Austin-based Mohon-Imber, I was instantly captivated. The house blends a dignified coastal aesthetic with playful details — think crisp white rooms, warm wood beams, and unexpected green accents on the ceiling and shutters. Those touches give the home personality without overwhelming the serene, understated palette.

What I love most about this style is its balance: refined and welcoming at once. The main living spaces feel relaxed and open, anchored by timeless materials and soft neutrals. The green shutters and ceiling introduce color in a way that feels fresh rather than trendy, creating pockets of visual interest that draw the eye around each room.

There’s a comforting rhythm through the rooms pictured — a consistent language of texture, light, and proportion. The bedroom images show how contrast and restraint can make a space feel elegant yet cozy. Meanwhile, the family room captures a coastal spirit with functional furnishings and a breezy feel, perfect for everyday life. Even the child’s bedroom retains the home’s cohesive character while welcoming playful moments.

One image shows a patio by the sea that perfectly embodies coastal living: an outdoor room that extends the home’s palette and invites slow afternoons and long evenings. The connection to the landscape is simple and direct, with materials and finishes that weather gracefully over time.

Seeing these interiors reminded me of previous homes I’ve loved — different addresses, but a similar sensibility: calm color schemes, thoughtful details, and a few surprising accents that make each space feel personal. That’s the bittersweet part of moving: you gain new spaces but sometimes miss the familiar comfort of the old ones.

Still, there are so many beautiful homes to discover. Each project offers ideas worth borrowing — a ceiling color, a shutter shade, a pattern or texture — that can be adapted to your own home.
