Hello, lovelies! I hope you’re having a wonderful week.
I realize January is already winding down (I lost a couple of weeks to the flu), and I hadn’t posted the 2014 Home Goals printable yet. I shared one for 2013 and wanted to update it for this year in case you’d like a simple tool to help you plan and stay focused.
It’s definitely not too late to set home goals and make a plan. I’ve outlined my organizing plans for the year in previous posts — those are the big-picture goals I’ll be working on and sharing progress about as the year goes on.
My head has been full of ideas for projects, but I also feel a calm acceptance about what I don’t need to accomplish right now. It’s easy to get swept up in a frenzy of tasks or compare ourselves to other DIY blogs and feel like we’re falling behind. But why do that to ourselves?
I believe in balance: choose projects that truly enhance your home and life as time and budget allow, but don’t obsess to the point that you lose sight of why we create homes in the first place—to nurture and enjoy the people who live and visit there.
Right now, I’m in a “keep things simple” phase. Being sick reminded me how restorative it can be to slow down and spend cozy family time on the couch watching favorite shows like Downton Abbey and Sherlock. Those quiet moments are part of what makes a home special.

This week I’m refreshing the family room now that the holiday decor is put away—I’m ready to bring a little spring into the house and enjoy brighter, lighter surroundings. Fortunately we’re not dealing with the heavy snow some areas are seeing, so no extreme weather complaints here in Washington.
I’ll be taking photos as the room comes together and will share the updates. I also reorganized a file drawer in my desk—yay! It feels great to have a new system for monthly paperwork. I’ll share that small project with you as well.
