Last year I bought a metal whale with the idea of incorporating him into our decor in various seasons at our coastal home. He wasn’t originally intended to be part of a wreath, but for winter he works perfectly and adds a playful touch to our entry.

I don’t chase every decorating trend. Instead, I surround our home with pieces that bring meaning and joy. My love of the sea often shows up in subtle ways—through colors, textures, and the overall mood of our rooms. Other times it’s expressed more directly in accessories and the seaside artwork we’ve collected over the years.

I prefer creating a sanctuary that feels meaningful to our family rather than following the ever-changing design fads.

When I first saw this little whale, he made me laugh, and I knew he belonged in our home. A whimsical accent like this reflects my sense of humor and helps make the atmosphere lighthearted and welcoming.

Between the move and settling in, I temporarily misplaced the whale and only rediscovered him a few weeks ago. Once I found him, it was an easy decision to add him to a winter wreath. Now he greets us at the door, bringing a smile to everyone who comes home.

Do you enjoy adding playful or meaningful pieces to your decorating?

The wreath has a saw-tooth hanger on the back. I simply tied a velvet ribbon around it and hung it from a cup hook on the door. It’s an effortless way to add personality—small touches that make a big difference.
