Thank you Walmart for sponsoring this post!

I like to keep holiday decorating simple. In this post I’ll explain what “simple” looks like for me and show how my porch became a cozy, festive spot without a lot of effort. I shopped online at Walmart, which made it easy to pull together pieces that feel seasonal and comfortable from now through the holidays.

Our previous home had two very small covered porches—cute, but just big enough to keep guests dry while they rang the bell. Our new porch, however, is spacious enough to sit and enjoy a morning coffee or gather with a friend for hot cocoa. I wanted to make it welcoming and festive without overdoing it.

To add a little evening sparkle, we placed three lighted birch trees around the seating area— they look magical after dark. I added two navy plaid blankets for chilly evenings and woven tree pillows to winterize our Adirondack chairs. Our large aqua mugs are perfect for holding warm drinks while we relax outside.

The birch trees come with bases, but placing a couple inside baskets gave them a finished, cozy look. Using baskets or simple containers is an easy trick to blend seasonal décor with the existing style of your porch.

This porch took only a few well-chosen items to feel cozy and festive. Simple decorating doesn’t mean plain—it means selecting pieces that bring warmth and seasonal charm without clutter. Your idea of simple may differ from mine, and that’s okay. The goal is to create a space you enjoy.

There’s a lot of inspiration online and sometimes it can make you feel you must do more or worry you’ve done too much. Don’t let that add stress—decorate in a way that brings you joy. For me, Walmart is a convenient one-stop shop for holiday decor, which helps keep the process simple and manageable.

My decorating process starts by choosing a few key areas I want to highlight—like a mantel, a staircase, a door, a porch, or a table. I pick one spot and add a simple holiday touch. I can stop there or move on to another area. If I want to add more later, I can, but usually the small, thoughtful details feel just right.

Decorate in ways that bring you calm and happiness. Every season of life is different, and how much you do this year may not be the same as another year. Honor where you are and choose what makes you feel present and peaceful in the season.
