It takes time to find your rhythm in a new home. If you’re on a budget, juggling other priorities, or your house has strong personality, it can easily take a few years to settle into a style that feels right. In our case, we’ve found that about three years is when design decisions start to get easier and the house begins to feel like ours.

White Slipcovered Sofa / Blue and White Pillows
We’ll have been here four years this fall, and only now does the house—and we—feel like we are coming together. Moving is always an ordeal for us, but I’m glad the design choices are starting to click. Each decision feels a little easier, and that’s been a welcome relief.

Deciding on a comfortable color scheme and the style your home naturally leans toward rarely happens overnight. Some houses reveal their preferences slowly; you learn what suits them through time, experimentation, and adjustments. That gradual process is part of the fun.

This old house is finally settling into a fresh, updated look that feels natural for her. (And yes, I like to think it suits me too.) The palette of natural wood tones paired with blues, whites, and a few deep greens feels authentic and calm.

We’re embracing a subtle, natural modern coastal vibe. The combination of warm wood tones with blue and white accents—plus occasional deep greens—creates a relaxed, cohesive atmosphere. Sticking to a mostly neutral palette gives us flexibility to layer and tweak colors seasonally or by room.
I enjoy how blues and whites can be dialed up or down to reflect the season or my mood. That adaptability keeps the spaces feeling fresh while still grounded in a consistent aesthetic.

You’ll find some items on my blue and white wish list that inspire these rooms.
I’m looking forward to my next projects around the house, thank you for following along. Sharing this journey with you makes it so much more fun.
