What a week! Technology hasn’t been kind to me — a broken dryer that left laundry draped around the house and a blog that nearly fell apart. With Ted’s patient help I’ve been able to get things back on track, and now I’m ready to focus on pretty and pleasant projects. Shall we take a look?
Scroll through to the end of the post to see my laundry room and a selection of laundry and craft room inspiration photos.

I’ve been sharing tours of rooms in our new house so you can see the layout, evaluate the pros and cons, and gather ideas for the direction each space might take. As I live in the house and consider each room, a clearer vision for the whole home is emerging. I’ll share that overall plan soon — it’s so much fun to imagine the possibilities.
Previously I showed inspiration for our entry and our living room. Today, since laundry has been on my mind, let’s head downstairs to the laundry room so you can see where we’ve been spending time.
This room is already one of my favorites, and I’m excited to update it.

Although the laundry room is in the basement, it’s far from the dark, dreary spaces I’ve known before. It’s light, cheerful, and surprisingly pleasant to be in — even with the dryer out of commission. The room brims with potential. Could it become a charming craft-and-laundry room or a combined mudroom and laundry space? I can picture it already.
Here are some of the pros:
- Attractive tile floors
- Lots of cabinet and counter space
- Two windows that bring natural light
- Generous room size

Issues to address:
- Broken dryer
- Washer is on a pedestal, which makes access difficult for me
- Exposed plumbing on one wall
- No laundry sink — a practical addition to consider
Ideas to consider:
- Replace or refresh counters
- Swap out hardware for updated pulls and knobs
- Add millwork for a more finished look
- Improve lighting for task and ambient needs
- Create functional, attractive organization systems
- Introduce accessories that add character
- Carve out space for crafts or projects
- Add a colorful or patterned rug
- Replace mirrored closet doors for the furnace and water heater if desired
Cosmetically the space is already welcoming, which made moving in a pleasure. With a few updates we can make it distinctly ours — many improvements will be simple and immediate.
One bonus: a tiled hallway leads from the lower family room to the laundry room, connecting the garage and a bathroom. This hallway provides continuity and extra wall space to extend storage or display solutions.

The hallway could become an extension of the laundry room’s functional area.

I love that the hallway adds more wall space for personalized organization and decor.

The existing paint is a pleasant gray-blue, which I plan to keep for now. There are wires in place for sconces, so I’ve started imagining how the hallway could be styled and lit.
I’ve collected inspiration images for the laundry room to spark ideas we can blend into a perfect, functional space for our family. What ideas do you like? Enjoy the photos!

I’m fond of colored washers and dryers — they add instant personality.

PS. If you ever have questions about items you see in the rooms of my home, you can find sources for my style and furnishings in my shop, and paint colors from my previous house on my paint colors page. I’ll update pages for this house as we settle in.
