Calm and Bright Holiday Nights: Festive Ideas for a Peaceful Season

Because many of you asked how the weekend went (thank you for your support and hilarious comments on my last post), I thought I’d share an update: I successfully dug the table out from the avalanche of stuff. Small victory, big relief.

Funny moment — as I snapped the top photo the boys leapt onto the sofa and smooshed the cushions I’d just fluffed. I didn’t stress about it; kids will be kids.

I put the freshly washed slipcovers back on the sofa — no ironing, just wash, dry, and slip them on. I also swept, vacuumed, dusted, ran the dishwasher, and cleaned the toilets. Not glamorous, but satisfying.

I hung a few things on the wall in my daughter’s newly painted bedroom (yahoo! the “swine” elimination continues), and made good progress on our Christmas shopping. Big win on that front.

Even Jack got a holiday wash — clean pup, happy house.

Deadlines can be the best motivator. They got me moving and checking things off the list.

After some thought, I decided not to replace any ornaments on the lower half of the Christmas tree. That choice turned out to be wise.

Soon after my last post, Jack walked right over, lifted his leg, and peed on our Christmas tree. Yes, with my family watching. I saw the whole thing unfold, and, no, I didn’t take a picture — I wasn’t about to stage the incident for the camera.

In his defense, Jack explained he was simply pleased we’d finally provided indoor plumbing for him. I’ll take that as a reasonable — if slightly ridiculous — explanation.

WHA? Yeah. Understandable mistake. Moving on.
