Hey friends — welcome! Come on in. I’m inviting you to see my Christmas decor even though I haven’t finished all of the holiday decorating yet. I’m keeping things simple this year, and the trees and entry still need attention. That’s life, though — family and everyday tasks come first. I’m glad you stopped by, so I’ll show you what I’ve done so far.
I swapped the green shutter above the fireplace mantel for a mirror to bring in some warmer tones. I’m a cozy-house person, and adding the brown frame of a mirror I already owned really helped winterize the space.
When my usual garland fell down, I didn’t rehang it — I used a simple snowflake garland instead, and I love the fresh, delicate look it gives the mantel.
The mercury glass ornaments catch the light so well — their silvery shimmer feels festive without being fussy.
During the Thanksgiving snowstorm the power went out and we turned the chairs to face the fireplace so we could snuggle up close. It was so cozy I left them that way for a while — a simple setup that we’ll use again on cold nights.
I repurposed the wreath that had been on the fireplace all year, gave it a light dusting of faux snow spray, and layered a second wreath with white berries on top. Same wreath, refreshed look.
I’d been missing a bit of red in the room, so when my new DaySpring pillow arrived it was the perfect pop of color and instantly felt festive.
My photos at night don’t do the glow justice, but you get the idea — everything sparkles. I like tucking small trees in place of lamps to add soft lighting around the room.
Cozy, furry blankets are essential for nights by the fire. I found this one at Pier One and love how soft it is.
Family movie night lined up on the sofa with popcorn — Buddy the Elf was the choice that night.
Foot fights on the couch are a guaranteed laugh after the movie.
In the dining room I added a sprig of greenery to a pitcher on the armoire. If you look up at the crown molding you’ll see our paint job still isn’t finished — we’re getting there.
I’m in love with the new dining room color — goodbye to the old pinky tone. We used Behr All in One Studio Taupe. I’ll do a full dining room post eventually and share more about the updates.
I had hoped to finish several themed little trees by now, but this is the only decorated tree so far — my humble silver spoon tree. I plan to add more trees this week as time allows.
I made a small display using a mercury glass candlestick topped with a mirror and cloche. A few ornaments under the cloche make it feel festive without taking up much space.
I printed festive words on a painted chalkboard in subway-style lettering using a white chalkboard pen. I enjoy how simple words can change the mood of a room.
We live here, so musical instruments are part of the décor — including drums in the living room. They add personality, and at least they’re sparkly for the holidays.
These nativity hurricanes added a gentle, reverent touch to the mantel.
I made a felt wreath for a bedroom door and love how cheerful and simple it is. It was an easy project and added a handmade touch to the home.
A few thoughtful bits here and there — little vignettes make the house feel festive without a complete overhaul.
Jingle bell mason jars in the kitchen add a cheerful sound and look — easy to create and festive to display.
I was baking gingerbread cookies for a church party and left a sheet on a chair to wait its turn in the oven. Our almost-16-year-old pup couldn’t resist and stole one right off the tray. Who can stay mad at that face?
Winston sends his love and wishes you a very Merry Christmas. I’ll share more decorating updates as I finish them, plus tips for preparing your home for holiday guests coming up soon.
Happy Christmas house touring this week!
