After the Christmas Tour: Secrets Unraveled and Next Steps

After the Christmas Home Tour

Sometimes I have to laugh at myself. I see so many people whose homes are still perfectly decorated — shiny and pretty — hosting parties, leisurely crafting, baking their favorite Christmas cookies, and wrapping gifts with cute paper and bows.

That is clearly how things look at my house!

We’re totally ready! Sitting by the fire, singing Christmas carols!

OK.

Here’s the truth. Brace yourself — it’s not pretty. Feel free to avert your eyes.

I haven’t bought or wrapped many gifts yet. Honestly, very few. I haven’t baked anything. Our tree was recently undecorated by Jack, leaving it rather bare.

Our garland on the stairs has gone crunchy and is shedding bits of evergreen all over the railing and floor.

I accidentally killed at least one poinsettia.

My slipcovers had to go in the wash (again), so the family room is a jumble. It got so disorderly I kept the blinds closed. You never know when a blogger with a zoom lens might be driving by.

Dogs are tracking through the furniture, which explains why I wash white slipcovers so often.

What was once a pretty dining room table, perfectly set for the holidays during my Christmas tour, has now been swallowed by some kind of freak avalanche of stuff.

I’m gearing up for a massive cleaning frenzy to reclaim my holiday spirit.

But other than that, I’m READY! WHOO HOO!

So, how are you doing the week before Christmas? REALLY?

It’s totally fine if you’re calmly crafting, hosting parties, and baking gingerbread cookies. I’m not jealous at all — really. I hope to join you in the festivities next week. We just hit a small setback and I have a few things left to do first. But there’s still time, right?
