One of the first updates we usually make when moving into a new home is swapping out wall or ceiling light fixtures. Replacing lights one at a time is an easy, affordable way to refresh a space, add personality, and establish a new style for the home.
You may have noticed the new ceiling lantern in our entry. If you followed our bedroom refresh earlier this year, you might recognize the same fixture — I ordered the navy lantern for the bedroom and loved it so much I tried it in the entry as well.
When the lantern arrived I fell for it immediately. The navy finish is soft and subtle, and the brass accents add just the right touch. Once I saw it in the entry, it felt perfectly at home there.
Here is the light that hung in the entry before we replaced it.

It wasn’t a bad fixture at all, but swapping it out gave the entry a bit more character and a refreshed look.

It’s always worth trying a fixture in a different room than you originally intended to see how it changes the feel of the space. I knew the navy lantern would work well in the bedroom, but once we hung it—initially as a temporary option—in the entry it instantly felt right.
The entry’s ceiling height allows the lantern to hang without feeling oversized or obtrusive, even for taller guests. At the same time, its scale is substantial enough to make a welcoming statement the moment you open the front door. I’ve always loved the coastal, lantern-style look, and this fixture helps set that tone for our home.
The only downside is now I need to find another light for the bedroom, but that’s a fun problem to have. I’m very happy we found the perfect lantern for the entry.
