Eclectic Home Office Makeover: Stylish Ways to Mix Metals

I really love the look of mixing metal finishes and varied textures in one room. That layered approach adds depth and character and keeps a space from feeling like it’s tied to a single trend or era. By blending accessories and styles in an eclectic way, you can update your decor while still incorporating pieces you’ve treasured for years.

Last week I framed all of my vintage sea life prints in different finishes, and I’m thrilled with the result. They bring a playful, refined touch and look especially striking against the new navy walls in my office. I’ll share more when I reveal the room soon.

Speaking of older pieces, I’ve owned this antique brass magazine holder for as long as I can remember. I love the little scene etched on it, and I plan to use it in the office to corral my favorite magazines. I’m happy to see antique brass making a comeback—there’s nothing quite like the warm patina of aged brass.

To continue the layered-metal look, I added two wall lights in a soft antique-gold brass finish. They’ll be mounted above the “cute as a button” chairs as reading lights, giving the space both function and a bit of glamour.

I am absolutely smitten with my new Anthro curtains. My husband helped hang them on an antique brass rod, and they instantly injected color and personality into the room. They’re a bit distracting because I keep admiring them, but they were worth the splurge for the way they transform the space.

Slowly but surely, layer by layer, the office is coming together. Next on the list are a new ceiling fixture, blinds, and then the task of organizing everything. I’m enjoying the process and the eclectic mix I’ve created so far.

I also have a few other project updates coming: the in-progress map wall in the hall outside my office, which many of you asked to see more of, and a long-overdue follow-up about the faux fireplace in my entryway. I haven’t forgotten about it—there was a small hiccup that deserves its own post soon.

Life gets busy and projects pile up—does that ever happen to you, or is it just me?
