Are you hosting Thanksgiving this week? Some readers in Canada may already be turning toward Christmas, but I’ve always liked the idea of stretching the holidays a bit so Thanksgiving feels distinct and unhurried. In our home we’ve often enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner with the warm glow of a Christmas tree nearby — it keeps the season feeling cozy without the rush.
I like to slow the pace and spread celebrations out so we can savor them with gratitude and joy throughout the season.

Welcome the cozy, festive atmosphere in whatever way inspires you. Natural decorating makes it easy to transition from one season to the next, using items you already have to create warmth and charm.

You can dress your table with simple, natural elements — pinecones, sprigs of greenery, berries, rosemary, small pumpkins, wheat stalks — whatever is on hand. Keep it simple so it’s enjoyable to create, and festive enough to feel special. That’s my approach.
Thanksgiving will be at my house this year and I’ll be setting the table for twelve. Yes, our tree is up and sparkling, so I’ll be sharing photos soon. Our main table won’t fit everyone, so we’ll add a folding craft table to welcome all our guests comfortably.

I’m looking forward to gathering around the table. There is so much to be thankful for this year.
I recently wrote about the secrets to gracious hospitality on Proverbs 31. If you’d like more ideas on hosting with a welcoming heart, you can find that post on the Proverbs 31 website.
