Humble Silver Spoon Tree: Dining Room Décor Ideas and Styling Tips

Creative Christmas tree theme!

We chose not to put up a single large focal tree this year. Instead of the usual grand, fragrant cut tree or an elaborate alternative, we opted to use what we already own. This simpler approach felt right for our home and our plans.

Rather than one big tree, we placed several smaller trees throughout the house, giving each main room its own little focal point.

I had hoped to have all of them decorated by now—after all, small trees are quick to trim—but life got in the way and it didn’t happen yet.

I’m glad things aren’t finished, though. I want my daughters to be here so we can decorate together. Christmas traditions are about family time, not about me doing everything alone. I don’t want to sacrifice those shared moments in the name of simplicity, so for now only one tree is complete. The others will be finished over the next week or two.

For a touch of whimsy in the dining room, I used my mother’s old silverware as ornaments.

The pieces are beautiful and meaningful, so it felt natural to display them on the tree.

This is just a small, well-loved spoon my mother collected over the years. I thought it would make a charming ornament.

I considered adding other embellishments to make the tree more elaborate, but ultimately decided to keep it simple—just spoons and forks. Sometimes restraint is the most elegant choice.

Even though it’s decorated with sterling and vintage pieces, the tree itself is modest and unassuming.

Each piece of silver is tied on with simple jute twine—no ribbons, no glitter, nothing extra.

The result is humble: not flashy, not showy, and not trying to steal the spotlight.

That quiet, understated look is exactly why I love it.
