Can you believe spring is only about 56 days away? January always seems to stretch on forever, but with the month nearly behind us I’m starting to shake off the winter doldrums and refresh the house in small, seasonal ways.

Here are a few of the decorating updates I made around the house this month.

Bunny Pitcher and Realistic Faux Tulips (both colors shown are linked)

Spring tulips and bunnies — This week I filled my favorite bunny pitcher with faux tulips. The vase lives in my home year-round, and switching in tulips instantly gives it a light, spring feeling. Little seasonal touches like this are an easy way to freshen a room without overhauling anything.

Winter greenery and spring flowers — A few months ago I added faux cedar topiaries to the planters on our bedroom deck and I’ve been really pleased with how they look. I originally intended them for late fall and winter, but they work so well I’ll keep using them year-round. They add consistent color without the upkeep real plants require, and they’re perfect for the front porch where deer can be an issue.

(I’ve shared more about these plant stands and other ways to style them in earlier posts.)

The faux topiaries add structure and green to the deck without worrying about watering, frosts, or pests. They’re an economical, low-maintenance option that still looks polished and intentional.

On a recent visit to a garden center my mom and I found a little spring plant that I loved, so I popped it into my bunny planter to add a touch of color to the deck. Small pops like these make the space feel cheerful and ready for the season.

January bedroom refresh — Every January I like to make a few changes in our bedroom, swapping out pieces and updating bedding to keep the space feeling fresh. Recently I had the opportunity to try gingham linen sheets and a linen quilt from a brand I love. The textures and soft pattern add a subtle spring vibe to the room without being overpowering.

My grandson Forrest hopped onto the bed for a little photoshoot and brightened up the room instantly. He’s a joyful reminder of why I love a cozy, well-styled bedroom—hospitable, comfortable, and welcoming to family.

A place for everything — Last week I shared a new wicker trunk and some organizing ideas. This year my theme is “a place for everything, and everything in its place,” which has inspired small changes focused on function as much as style.

Stair basket — With a new puppy we’ve had to be more mindful about the stairs. Instead of tossing items over a baby gate, I found a basket that hooks over the landing and keeps things tidy without blocking the walkway. Its shape fits our small landing perfectly and keeps the stairway safer and neater.

Tucking items into a designated basket keeps the stairs clear and keeps everyday clutter from becoming a tripping hazard. It’s a simple solution that looks intentional.

Refreshing the living room — I still miss having a couch in the living room and have been researching options. After overthinking a bit, I’ve finally narrowed down the best choices that will suit our family and style. I’ll share more about those plans soon.

What’s next for February and March?

Besides the living room, I have a few smaller rooms and projects I’m excited to tackle. After several years of renovations, it’s rewarding to focus on the finishing touches and fun details that make a house feel like home.

I also realized I haven’t yet shared our finished mudroom makeover here on the blog since the renovation wrapped up, so I’ll put together a full post on that next week with before-and-after photos and styling tips.
