When your home is small, every furniture choice counts. I’ve been having fun planning a small-space coastal look, and today I’m sharing two compact pieces we ordered this month and why we already love them.
With our renovation nearly finished, we began bringing in furniture and accessories this weekend to test how they’ll work with the new main-floor layout (the upstairs gets new wood floors this week). It’s an exciting stage — I’ll have lots to share in the coming weeks.
Our goal is to use mostly items we already own. The renovation budget didn’t allow for an all-new furniture refresh, and while that would be fun, we prefer to repurpose what we have when possible. We did give away a number of pieces when we downsized, though, so as we settle into this home we’ll likely add or swap a few items to better fit the space and our family’s needs.
One thing I realized we needed was a few extra chairs that are compact and light enough to move around. After a bit of searching I found these charming bamboo director’s-style folding chairs. They arrived this weekend and we fell in love with them — they’re beautiful and practical.

These chairs are crafted from real bamboo and handmade by artisans, so each piece is unique. They come in sets of two; I ordered two sets so we’d have four chairs. While the Adirondack chairs we had are lovely, they take up a lot of space and aren’t convenient to bring indoors. The new bamboo chairs are lightweight and easy to handle, making them ideal for a smaller home.

The bamboo director’s chairs are small in scale and not intended as lounge seating, but everyone agrees they’re comfortable for porch coffee or a relaxed conversation. We placed two on the front porch and the other two are inside for additional seating. They add casual coastal charm without crowding the space.

These chairs are versatile: they can be moved to the living room, upstairs, the back deck for gatherings, or used at the dining table for holidays. When not in use they fold flat and tuck away neatly in a closet or garage. They’re exactly the kind of flexible seating a small home needs.
I also ordered folding tray tables, and they’ve been a hit. They’re sturdy, portable, and fold for easy storage — perfect for small spaces. My mom liked them so much I loaned a pair to her Tiny Cottage; she uses one near the kitchenette and finds it very handy.
Though some people think of them as TV trays, they’re much more versatile: great for a laptop, an extra surface in the kitchen or bedroom, or even beside a bathroom vanity. They pair beautifully with the bamboo chairs for a cohesive, casual coastal vibe.
If you missed the Tiny Cottage empty home tour, you can find that post for more inspiration.

The tray tables and bamboo chairs look lovely together and make an adorable, functional pairing for small indoor or outdoor areas.
Stay tuned — I’ll be sharing more photos of our newly renovated home soon, including all the details from the remodel.
