Hi friends! Today I’m sharing a bathroom update as part of the Makeover in a Month series. A group of blogging friends and I challenged ourselves to start and finish a room makeover by the end of the month. Deadlines really do motivate—suddenly projects move fast, just like when you get a last-minute houseguest. With fewer visitors these days, creating our own timelines keeps momentum going.
This project is a straightforward refresh of our basement bathroom. I’d been postponing this room for five years while more urgent jobs took priority, but now it’s finally getting attention—and fast. Setting a deadline helped me stop chasing perfection and choose practical, effective updates. It’s exciting to see how much a few simple changes have already improved the space.

Last week I showed the freshly painted vanity. The original dark, glossy vanity and the mix of silver and brass fixtures made the room feel dated. A coat of milk paint transformed the vanity and brightened the look instantly.
This week we installed new faucets from Kingston Brass. The change in fixtures, along with the painted vanity, has made a dramatic difference. I’m thrilled with how fresh and cohesive the bathroom looks already, even though we still have more to do.

We chose vintage-style matte black faucets that bring character and contrast to the sink area. We also installed matching matte black hardware—a towel bar, robe hook, toilet paper holder, and a toilet handle—so the finishes feel intentional and unified. The coordinated hardware really ties the updates together.
Next on the list is painting a decorative stencil on the wall. I’m curious to see how the pattern will read in this space. After that we’ll hang the mirrors, remove the old light fixtures, and install new white powder-coated vanity lights for a cleaner, brighter look.
There’s also a mood board for the design, which helped guide the choices we made for color and finishes.

I’m really pleased with how this project is progressing. Small, considered changes can have a big impact—especially in a compact bathroom. The updated vanity, new fixtures, and consistent hardware finish already make the room feel refreshed and much more cohesive.
