My husband surprised me today with a pot of blooming tulips. It was a sweet gesture — and a lovely reminder to brighten the house for spring. I adore tulips, and the white ones in particular inspired me to freshen the dining room with a few simple, seasonal touches.

I removed the table runners so the wood could show, then arranged the tulips with a small tray of wheatgrass I picked up at the grocery store and a little decorative bird and nest. The look is effortless and uncluttered — a quiet nod to spring without overdoing it.
The table still has some unpainted leaves, which I’m aware of. I actually like the slightly imperfect, lived-in feel for now, so repainting the whole table will be a future project. For the moment the mix of worn and fresh elements feels right.
Many readers have asked about the dining room light fixture. It’s an outdoor-style lantern I found at Pottery Barn and it works perfectly over the table.

Over the holidays I moved a narrow console table in from our gathering space. It fits the dining room well even when the chairs are pulled out and provides a handy surface for a lamp, serving platters, or seasonal displays. At the moment, my Easter bunnies are perched there, adding a playful touch that feels perfectly springlike.
