Spring Decorating
Last week I decided it was time to give my family room mantel a fresh spring lift.
To nudge the season along, I added a few spring plants and a moss wreath. Green is the perfect color for the first glimpse of spring. I know those plants may not last the whole season, but I’ll enjoy every minute they sit on the mantel — and hopefully I’ll remember to water them.
The moss wreath? I could have made one, but I didn’t. This one was affordable, perfect, and ready to hang — no glue gun, no mess. Sometimes it’s nice to buy something finished and move on.
I truly love decorating. While I occasionally enjoy crafting, most of the time I prefer arranging pretty things rather than wrestling with glue and small pieces. I’m not a DIY diva, and I’m fine with that.
And yes — I do sometimes buy orchids at Trader Joe’s. They’re always lovely.
The mantel needed a little something extra, so I took a few plastic craft eggs from last year’s display and tucked them in. They add a soft hint of yellow, which brightens the arrangement without overpowering it.
This egg-and-branch creation from last year is my kind of DIY: simple and mess-free. Plastic eggs are durable and guilt-free when a decorating whim calls for them.
There were tiny, delicate flowers on one of the plants that I couldn’t resist bringing inside. They’re so pretty and dainty — the kind of detail that makes a simple mantel feel special.
I think the blooms might be a type of winter rose, though I can’t remember exactly what the garden center called them. For now, I’ll just call them pretty.
Come on, Spring. My mantel is ready for you.
I love wandering through charming garden stores, even knowing I won’t always keep every plant alive. Walking along crushed-gravel paths surrounded by flowering pots and greenery is soothing and inspiring — an easy way to gather ideas and lift my mood.
