YYou know I love making lists of happy things. One of my best blogging friends, Meg, has a family tradition I admire: every year her kids create a summer list of things they want to do. They write ideas—silly or serious—on a big poster board with boxes to check as they complete each item. It’s a playful way to dream and a visual reminder of summer plans.
This is a wonderful way to keep kids from getting bored and to make summer memorable.
You don’t need children to enjoy this idea. I’m making a summer list for myself. Life has been so busy lately that I barely have time to breathe, let alone play, so putting simple goals on paper helps me prioritize rest and fun.
Highlights from my list: playing with my son in the fountains, eating ice cream by the harbor, having a picnic, and taking the kids to the drive-in.
Having a list of small, meaningful activities gives me hope that it won’t be an all-work, no-play summer.
How about you? What do you want to do this summer?
Summer feels incomplete without a few vacations, even if they’re virtual. I have a few dreamy destinations in mind and I’ll be sharing them next week when The Inspired Room goes on a virtual road trip—relax and let me do the planning. It should be fun!
