Y’all, this bathroom has patiently waited its turn for a little refresh. It’s functional, reasonably tidy, and definitely not the worst bathroom we’ve ever had.
There are a lot of things I like about it. Compared with bathrooms we’ve had before, this one ranks near the top. It’s the first time we’ve had double sinks, and that has been a game changer. Previous bathrooms were so tiny you could barely fit one person; this one can fit the whole family getting ready at once (and yes, we do have two other bathrooms). When the kids are preparing to go out, everyone seems to congregate here.
I appreciate that the vanity is roomy and tall (oddly enough, I like a taller vanity even though I’m short). The drawers glide open easily. The skylight and four windows bring in plenty of natural light. We have a deep soaking tub, a separate toilet room with a lake view, and a master closet that connects directly to the bathroom. The slate tile floor is a nice upgrade from vinyl.
Still, there are elements I’d change. Mostly, I’d like the room to feel more like a calm hotel spa and less like a brand-new house. Maybe that’s asking a lot, but the space already feels a little spa-like to me—a sunny haven where our fiddle leaf figs perk up in winter. Plants love this room.

What I really wish for is that the cabinets, tile, and finishes matched my personal style and colors. I’d like full trim around the windows, and our exhaust fan is painfully noisy. Despite those quibbles, this bathroom has served us well for over six years and I don’t have many complaints. The walls are a bit scuffed and in need of fresh paint, so now seems like the perfect time for a small makeover.
Yes, those walls are still that builder-grade beige we affectionately call “swine.” It’s the last room in the house holding onto that color. I’ve lived with it for years—first thing every morning—and I’m ready to say goodbye. The tone can read a little mauve in certain light, and we’ve given it a somewhat joking name over time, but it’s time for a change.
Because we likely won’t stay in this house long enough to justify a full renovation, this will be a true mini makeover: new paint, maybe a simple window treatment, and refreshed towels and accessories. There are many other upgrades that would elevate the room further, but they require more time and money than I’m ready to invest right now. Still, even a small facelift will improve the space and make it feel more like ours.
I’m considering shades, blinds, or lightweight curtains for the windows. The lower panes are privacy glass, but I’d love to introduce some fabric, color, or pattern to warm the room. Realistically, paint will be the primary change, and I’m excited to see how much a new wall color will transform the bathroom.
I wish we’d refreshed this bathroom earlier so we could have enjoyed it longer, but the timing didn’t work out. One takeaway for the future: if we live somewhere with an unappealing builder color again, I want the ability to paint the whole house quickly—maybe even immediately. That would be a good goal.
So now you know where I’ve been brushing my teeth—welcome to our bathroom. I’ll be back soon with more photos and after shots once the mini makeover is finished.
