It feels like October just began, yet the holidays are already around the corner. I wanted to share a few updates from this month around the house.

I shared a fall day in my kitchen previously and am including a couple of those photos here as well.

Recently I needed a new lampshade and tried a few options. I ended up loving a green shade paired with an inexpensive white lamp I found—my shade is the 14-inch size.

I’ve been enjoying a touch of green in the house. It’s always been one of my favorite colors, and it pairs beautifully with our blues and neutrals. With so much greenery visible from our windows, adding green indoors helps bring the outside in and creates a peaceful, cohesive feel.

I also like to bring the inside out. Our porch ceiling is painted a soft blue (Benjamin Moore Wythe Blue at 50%), and with green pillows and a blue rug outside, the view from indoors to outdoors feels intentional and harmonious.

A new addition outside: I found bamboo wind chimes for my husband’s birthday and we both love their gentle, soothing sound. On mild days we often leave the door open so we can enjoy them from inside.

We have some plans for the entry, but for now I hung a vintage bamboo rack I found while antique shopping this summer. It was going to go in the powder room, but it’s currently holding our pups’ growing bandana collection.

Dog Bandana Sets

I love seeing our pups in bandanas, and keeping a few on the entry rack is convenient. Plaids and checks feel a bit “fallish” and add pretty color and pattern to the room.

To add cozy texture, I placed a vintage wicker sailboat in the window and swapped in a woven lampshade on a chinoiserie lamp.

I enjoy making small, nonpermanent changes—it’s fun to experiment with different elements and see what feels right.

We recently finished painting the door and walls. I’m still considering wallpaper or a handpainted design in this space, but I’ve postponed that until the new year and updated the paint for now. The current colors are Benjamin Moore Del Mar Blue on the interior door, Sherwin Williams Classic Light Buff on the trim, and Benjamin Moore Misty Air on the walls.

You can see a short video of the lamp and shade for a closer look.

One advantage of my work is trying different rugs in the house. We swapped the spring/summer floral rug in the dining room for one with a richer fall palette that’s soft, durable, and perfect for Finnegan and Lily’s daily antics. We also changed the entry rug to coordinate.

I made a small nest of fall leaves for the swan on the table to add seasonal texture and color.

We created a new coffee station in the kitchen in preparation for holiday gatherings and cozy mornings. There’s a drip coffee maker on the counter and my espresso machine is stored in the coffee cabinet—both are getting plenty of use.

Thank you for your feedback on my bedroom paint indecision. While I liked a moody blue in an inspiration image, I ultimately chose a different direction and we started painting this week. I’m excited to share the finished room soon.

On a different note, I picked up a charming book set that makes a sweet gift and looks lovely on a shelf—classic reads that also serve as decor.
