Hey friends — happy day after Mother’s Day!
After an intense season of writing and a busy stretch of projects this year, I’ve intentionally slowed down to recharge. It isn’t exactly a vacation (I’d love one of those!), but I’m choosing to be present and replenish my energy instead of constantly doing what needs to be done to meet deadlines.
I love my work and feel grateful for the opportunities I’ve had over the past eleven and a half years, but running a small business brings seasons that are harder than others. When you’re self-employed or driven, growth opportunities can keep coming one after another, and it can be difficult to carve out a real break. Still, you can’t pour from an empty cup — it’s essential to refill it.
Sometimes you have to consciously protect your downtime, even if that means slowing the pace or letting a few things slide while you rest. I’ve had to give myself that permission through many seasons of life.
Maintaining a healthy rhythm between rest and work helps us stay happy, creative, and productive. Work can be rewarding, but quiet time, time with loved ones, and moments to refresh are equally important for long-term well-being.
Slowing down doesn’t always come naturally to me — I truly enjoy what I do — but it’s so renewing to wander neighborhoods without an agenda, sip coffee slowly, or putter around the yard. I’m excited to share updates on our yard soon; there’s so much I want to show you!
Yesterday I relaxed with my family doing simple things I love — a perfect Mother’s Day. We started at Storyville (their almond milk latte is my favorite), then took a sunny walk along Alki Beach in West Seattle. The weather was gorgeous and the day felt easy.

Aren’t my kids cute? 🙂
After the beach we drove to one of my favorite neighborhoods to explore on foot: Madison Park. I love its beautiful homes, careful landscaping, and the streets that overlook Lake Washington. The views and inspiration are hard to beat.
I snapped a few photos to share from our walk and drive through the neighborhood:

I can’t imagine a better way to spend the day — outside with my sweet family, drinking coffee and admiring houses.
Hope you’re taking time to be present in moments that refill you, too, sweet friend!
What have you been doing lately to make time for yourself?
