I know it might sound a little odd, but I love designing “destinations” throughout my home. I picture small corners as quiet getaways for reading, blogging, or simply taking a moment to myself.
One of my favorites is this cozy corner with a cheerful blue chair from Country Living. It’s tucked into the corner with easy access to shelves of books—an ideal little escape for anyone who loves to read.

Adding a lamp and a couple of ottomans beside the sofa makes that spot even more inviting and comfortable. Creating a desirable destination doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive—small thoughtful touches can make a big difference.

Martha Stewart’s coffee corner is a lovely example of a purposeful, attractive space. While mine isn’t as elaborate, I enjoy having syrups, pretty creamers, and a selection of mugs on hand to make my morning coffee ritual feel a little more special. It’s not Starbucks-level fancy, but it’s a small daily pleasure to have a place to go each morning.

Last summer I set up a simple herb and potting station with a small gardening table in the backyard. I’m already looking forward to planting season again. Even without a green thumb, it was relaxing to step outside and snip fresh herbs from my own garden. That modest table created a purpose-driven spot I genuinely enjoy visiting.
If you’re feeling ambitious, you can go further and decorate or theme your destinations. I admire creative backyard transformations that turn an ordinary yard into a mini escape—why not have a tropical spot just outside your door?
You can also create a spa-like destination in your bathroom. I hope to renovate my master bath someday, but for now a deep tub gives me a simple, soak-worthy retreat—close enough to a spa for most of my needs.
There are so many ways to create small destinations at home. What little retreats do you have, or what would you like to create in your space?
