Progress Over Perfection: How to Move Forward Without Waiting

It doesn't have to be perfect but this is ridiculous

April 2014

I know a house doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.

We embrace imperfection quite well in our home. Life here is often messy, loud, and a little ridiculous — and that’s okay.

Actually, sometimes my life at home is just plain ol’ ridiculous.

When we brought the new puppy home the other day, my daughter laughed and said it seems we thrive on a little chaos. I couldn’t agree more. Mostly, I’m fine with that.

If you’ve followed along, you’ve probably noticed that about me: I’m comfortable with things not being picture-perfect.

That same kind of chaotic charm has followed our family since the early days of blogging — except now, all the animals seem to have come to life. In different seasons, and during times of change, imperfection has a way of moving in. Sometimes we invite it; other times it barges in without warning.

Imperfect Home Meaningful Life

I believe welcoming imperfection is part of living a full, meaningful life. If you love a tidy, orderly home, it’s easy to forget that absolute perfection isn’t realistic or even desirable for most of us. We all need reminders of what truly matters.

That’s one of the reasons I love blogging and this community — we encourage one another and celebrate homes that are lived-in and loved rather than flawless.

We are kindred spirits here, finding beauty in the imperfect.

book

Today I’m excited to share news from a long-time blogging friend, Nester (Myquillyn). Her new book has been released, and I couldn’t be happier for her. Seeing friends transform their blogs into published books is a joy — it’s a milestone that brings pride and a big smile.

The Nesting Place isn’t a typical decorating book. Nester writes honestly about her own journey toward embracing imperfection in her home, blending stories and practical insights. If you’ve ever doubted that your home could feel beautiful to you, this book is a gentle nudge to stop making excuses and start creating a space you love.

If the idea of a lived-in, welcoming home appeals to you, The Nesting Place is worth a look and likely to inspire you to take small, meaningful steps toward a home that reflects your life.
