Thank you so much for the wonderful responses to yesterday’s Home Goals post. I loved reading your comments, and I hope you’ll add your goals as you decide on them. It’s fun to set intentions and then look back next year to see how we did—accountability can be motivating.
This year I’m focusing on investing in a stronger sense of well-being at home. One simple way I’ve done that is by paying attention to the scents in our house. A welcoming fragrance can instantly shift the mood of a room, and I’ve become a bit obsessed with creating a pleasant-smelling home.
For Christmas I gave each family member a bedroom diffuser, and it’s been a game changer. I still enjoy candles for ambiance, but diffusers have quickly become a staple. They’re an effortless way to freshen rooms and create a calming atmosphere.
My interest in natural remedies goes back many years—advice and guidance from a trusted naturopathic doctor introduced me to healthier options long before they became more mainstream. That background led me to embrace essential oils as a natural way to scent the house and support general wellness when used thoughtfully.

Make your own linen spray: I love a simple linen spray—try about 15 drops lavender and 15 drops orange (or any combination you like) in 1 1/2 cups of water. If you prefer, add 1–3 tablespoons of witch hazel or alcohol to help blend the oil and water. I use blue glass spray bottles for a pretty, practical touch.
I was slow to try a diffuser, but once I did, I was hooked. My current diffuser doesn’t use heat or water, so it preserves the oil’s natural properties while releasing a fine mist into the air. I also keep a glass spray bottle with diluted oils handy for quick spritzes on sheets or in small spaces—simple and portable.
Diffusers have been especially appreciated by everyone in our home. Last winter we battled a tough flu, which left me low on energy for weeks. That experience prompted me to start using essential oils more regularly. I order my oils through a trusted source and have found them to be a helpful addition to our household routine.
One oil blend we often use during cold and flu season is Thieves. We diffuse it regularly in hopes of reducing germ spread and creating a comforting scent in the house. After several years of consistent use, I’ve noticed fewer illnesses in our family, and that’s something I’m grateful for.
A good starter kit often includes a diffuser; pairing both makes it easy to begin using essential oils at home.
Quality matters when choosing essential oils. Trusted suppliers that prioritize sourcing, purity, and testing help ensure you get a consistent product. My family uses oils from a reputable company we trust because we’ve seen positive results and value the extra assurance of product integrity.
What’s your favorite scent for the home?
