Curb Appeal Gates
On Mother’s Day we took a short drive around Bainbridge Island. I didn’t catch a good view of the house that day, but I couldn’t resist stopping to photograph this gate.
That gate felt both cheerful and a little melancholy—one side bright, the other more solemn. I like how small details can suggest a mood, even in something as practical as an entry gate.
Below are photos I’ve taken on other drives through neighborhoods. Each entrance has its own personality: different shapes, materials and textures combine to create a distinctive welcome. Studying them is a simple way to gather ideas for design, landscaping and scale.
Enjoy the short tour and the variety of styles. I’ve kept the images here so you can see how subtle choices—an arbor, a stone pillar, painted wood, or wrought iron—change the whole feeling of an approach to a home.

PS. Have your Procrastination Posts ready to share on Thursday! If you don’t have after photos, be honest and tell us what happened. I’ll admit I have a few excuses of my own, but I’ll also share a photo. Looking forward to seeing what you’ve accomplished—or not accomplished—this week!
