The kitchen is the center of so many daily moments, and it often needs a little extra care. I like to use the change of season as a chance to reset, and the kitchen is one of my favorite rooms to refresh for spring.

With spring just around the corner and a bit of sunshine for inspiration, I wanted to share a few simple updates we’ve made recently.

Recent spring kitchen resets

We repeat a few tasks each season. Here are five spring resets we’ve done in the last couple of weeks:

  • Clear the countertops and give every surface a thorough cleaning
  • Rearrange or swap decorative items so the room feels refreshed
  • Bring in fresh plants for the season and remove any that didn’t make it
  • Change café curtains for a simple seasonal update — a quick swap can make a big difference
  • Touch up paint on furniture or woodwork; right now we’re repainting our dining table and often do small touch-ups on trim

Small seasonal updates and daily routines are what I call home rhythms — simple, repeatable practices that help a home feel fresh and welcoming.

Finding a sustainable and enjoyable rhythm for each season is the key to staying on top of household tasks and feeling more balanced in life. It makes upkeep feel manageable instead of overwhelming.

The first two home routines I adopted were making the bed each morning and washing dishes every night. They’re basic, but they make a big difference.

For years I struggled with feeling overwhelmed by our home until I discovered how much easier everyday life can be with a simple, sustainable rhythm. It felt transformative.

Rhythms do more than help with chores — they support well-being, reduce stress, and create space for beauty in every season. When you have a trusted routine, it’s easier to return to calm even if you fall behind.

Over the years I’ve refined efficient, sustainable ways to care for and decorate a home, and I enjoy sharing what I’ve learned with others who want a gentler, more beautiful daily life.

We recently refreshed and reorganized our home rhythm and decorating systems in The HomeBody House and on our website, so everything is ready for a new season of simple, satisfying home care.

The HomeBody House is a calm retreat where you can find practical, peaceful steps to create a seasonal sanctuary in your home. You can begin building that sanctuary today.

I added a new welcome video to The HomeBody House that offers three straightforward steps to get started with seasonal rhythms.

On the topic of seasonal updates, I recently added a new kitchen runner. Runners are great because they’re easy to store, so you can switch them with the seasons.

Washable rugs are especially practical in the kitchen. We chose a washable runner that feels cozy and floral—perfect for spring. Besides adding style, a runner helps prevent slipping and catches drips from cooking and dishes, protecting the floor.

Keeping a runner in the kitchen most of the year has practical benefits: it gives traction for a lively puppy and shields the floor from spills and wear.
