We asked. You voted. We listened.
Recently we ran a poll asking readers to help choose a new color for our dull bookcase. After tallying your votes, we went with the clear favorite and gave the piece a bold refresh.

All three subtle options had supporters, and several of you suggested different hues, but the majority ruled. The finished result is a lively green bookcase that brightens the room and ties in with the dining area accents.

We originally considered a muted, grey-green (option #3), but after taking inspiration from a kitchen we loved and deciding to be bolder, we chose Glidden’s “Zen Mist.” It’s a clean green with a subtle lime-yellow undertone. The process was straightforward: a coat of primer followed by two coats of semi-gloss, and the transformation was complete.
We’re thrilled with the result. Stepping away from our usual white palette was worth it — the new color is a marked improvement over the reddish wood finish that previously clashed with the rest of the room. The green complements the dining room accents and still lets the white pieces on the shelves stand out.
