We promised photos of the old house emptied and ready for its new owners, so here they are. (These were uploaded while parked at Panera using their Wi-Fi because we couldn’t get service set up at the new house until the next day.) We intended to share more updates yesterday, but coordinating a domino closing—where one sale must fund another the same day—rarely goes smoothly. The buyers of our house ran into an unexpected delay, and we did too, so we didn’t actually close until this morning. Thankfully, the previous owners of our new house kindly handed us the keys early since they knew we had nowhere else to go and a truck full of belongings. We’re so grateful to them. Oh, and we were hit with a surprise snowstorm that made moving items between houses quite an adventure (more on that later).

After hours of unpacking and getting Clara and Burger settled, we finally crashed—our mattress on the floor—around 1 a.m. Even exhausted, we couldn’t stop grinning. There’s nothing like the first night in a new home. Clara and Burger seemed to agree: so far they’ve adapted like pros. We’ll share more about moving day and photos of the new house once we sort those images (maybe this afternoon). For now, enjoy a look back at Casa Petersik—comparing early move-in shots with what the house looked like on our last day.

We left it as a nursery after removing Clara’s favorite light fixture and curtains—the only items we couldn’t part with:

It was bittersweet to close that door for the last time—surprisingly, I didn’t cry—but it felt incredible to open a new door to our next chapter. We’re excited to share this journey with you and will post more photos and details as soon as we can.
P.S. We still need to update our site header and rename the House Tour tab to “Old House” and add a “New House” tab with before photos. Hoping to find time to do that in the next few days.
