How to Update a Doorbell Cover for a Stylish Upgrade

One project on our “someday” list is to hire an electrician to add wall sconces throughout the house. For a quick, temporary solution we’ve used a battery-operated wall sconce (see the post referenced below). We were also considering having the electrician move our doorbell to a less conspicuous spot.

Until then, I wanted to improve the look of our plain doorbell cover. I briefly considered painting the existing cover to match the wall, but that didn’t feel like it would make enough of a difference. I didn’t want to spend a lot, but I hoped to find something with a bit more character—perhaps in brass or with a slightly fancier design.

After searching, I found a decorative doorbell cover and decided to give it a try. To my surprise, it made a noticeable difference. It’s subtle and decorative enough to look intentional, and while I still plan to move the doorbell eventually, it no longer feels urgent.

If a boring plastic or unattractive doorbell cover is bothering you, there are a few simple options to improve the look without rewiring. A decorative cover can be an easy fix, or you could hide the plate with a small piece of artwork, a decorative basket, or another accent. These small details can really help a space feel finished.
