Fresh Summer Home Decor Ideas to Brighten Every Room

Covered porch summer decorating inspirationBHG

If I had a large covered porch, I would want it to look exactly like this. I saw this photo in Better Homes and Gardens and couldn’t help but gush — the shingles, the furniture, the door, the porch ceiling — I love it all.

This mint green kitchen nearly convinced me to change my kitchen colors (I’ll share more about my plans and timeline soon). It’s so charming it made deciding even harder.

I’m in love with that lamp — though with a busy household it might be risky. The whole palette feels summery and fresh; I might just take the chance.

The wood trim around the doorway, the window seat, the shiplap, the distinctive coffee table and the fan — I’d take the whole room. It all feels so thoughtfully layered.

I see some of you already have kids going back to school — it seems early! My son doesn’t start until September, so we’re still fully in summer mode here.

In previous years I would often travel to events like Better Homes & Gardens gatherings or blogging conferences around this time, but this summer I decided to stay home or only travel with my family.

Although I missed seeing friends and skipping a few fun events, I don’t regret choosing a quieter summer. Saying “no” to outside commitments has been freeing, and it’s been wonderful to be home.

Besides spending time with my family, I’ve slipped into what I’d call “summer nesting” — a slower, more intentional season for me. I don’t usually think of summer as a nesting time, but this year slowing down and making the house cozy has felt right.

I’ll share more soon about nesting, the decluttering spree I’ve been on, and my kitchen timeline. For now, enjoy this late-summer decorating inspiration.

How are things around your house? What projects or small changes have you been enjoying this season?
