Home Office Makeover Reveal: Stylish Everyday Elements Tour

Let’s welcome Amanda back to The Inspired Room today to reveal her Home Office Makeover! Woo hoo!

This makeover was entirely Amanda’s own project. She planned to complete it from top to bottom in just two weeks on a $1,000 budget. Let’s see how it turned out.

Hello Inspired Room friends!!

This is Amanda from Everyday Elements, returning to share the finished result of my home office remodel. If you missed the first post in this series, you may want to look at the “before” photos so you can appreciate the dramatic transformation this room experienced.

My goals for the office were:

  • Create a modern-traditional home office where I can run my business, welcome friends, and have a comfortable spot to read and relax.
  • Make the office feel like a sanctuary while remaining fully functional.
  • Complete the remodel in two weeks with a $1,000 budget.

How did I do? I hit two and a half of the three goals. Which one didn’t get fully met?

If you guessed the $1,000 budget, you’re right. I went about $500 over. My initial purchases at IKEA totaled about $1,127, and I have roughly $140 in items to return (frames and drapes). The rug and new drapes accounted for about $350, and once you add paint, a new phone, and the large picture above the credenza, the final total reached around $1,500.

The office turned out modern, well organized, and truly feels like a sanctuary. It’s everything I imagined and more. Even my husband is drawn to the space and now often “hangs out” with me while I work.

The two-week timeline was met as well, just in time for my first in-person group photography and editing workshop on April 30th. We still had the drapes to finish and planned to add them the week after the workshop, but on May 2nd our lives changed when my niece was critically injured in a car accident that also claimed the lives of our next door neighbor and her six-year-old son.

Here’s where I sourced everything:

  • Most furniture from IKEA (except the piano stool used as a side table, which is a family antique)
  • Rug from Lowes
  • Shelving system cut to fit the closet from Lowes
  • Curtain rods from Lowes
  • Drapes (108″) from CurtainWorks
  • Large picture above the credenza from Bed, Bath and Beyond

Special thanks to my husband for his work on the wire and cord system. There are no visible dangling cords. He organized everything in the closet and replaced many devices with wireless alternatives so only essential cables run to the desk, and he made those as unobtrusive as possible.

For a closer look, you can watch my video tour of the office on YouTube. Pardon my enthusiasm— that’s just me.
