Major Announcement: What You Need to Know Now

The Inspired Room Big News

It’s been an intense few weeks at our house. You may have noticed I was quiet here for a few days—life got unexpectedly busy. After talking about moving to Seattle since spring, we finally took the leap and decided to put our house on the market.

I worried because my son was due to start school in September, so the outcome could mean he stayed in his current school or started somewhere new. We realized sometimes the only way to find out what’s possible is to take a leap of faith and see what happens. Initially I wished we had listed earlier in the season to give ourselves more time, but we agreed that if the house hadn’t sold after a few weeks we’d simply take it off the market at the end of August and move on. We didn’t want months of limbo, so we contacted a realtor on a Thursday to ask questions and to have her visit.

To our surprise, we barely had the sign up before we had a signed contract. Suddenly we had just a few weeks to pack, move out, and face the fact that we didn’t yet have a new place to live. It was both thrilling and terrifying. We had already been looking for houses and options in our price range were limited, but we were relieved to have a contract in hand even if it meant a temporary period without a home. To make things even more hectic, I flew across the country the next day for a week to speak at an event. Trying to look for a house long-distance added a whole new layer to the adventure.

I’m excited to share the rest of the story soon—it includes a few unexpected twists. Leaving a home you love is bittersweet, and I’m still working through that. Before I can write it all out, though, I have to go finish packing.

PS. I may share updates from the house on Instagram, so if you’re not following, consider looking me up there. I might also try a live stream on Periscope this week if I’m feeling brave. My daughter Courtney and I once accidentally streamed while at a restaurant, which was awkward but entertaining. If I do go live intentionally, I’ll announce it on Twitter.
