What a week it has been—technology has been testing my patience. From a broken dryer that left laundry draped all over the house to a blog meltdown that needed patient repair from my tech helper, Ted, I’m ready to focus on pretty and pleasant things. Shall we take a break and look at the laundry room?
Scroll through to the end of the post to see my laundry room photos and a collection of laundry and craft room inspiration images.

I’ve been sharing tours of several rooms in our new house so you can see what we’re working with—the strengths, the challenges, and a few inspirational ideas that could guide future updates.
As I learn the house and imagine its possibilities, I’m getting a clearer vision for the overall feel I want. I’ll share a post about that broader vision soon. It’s so fun to dream and plan!
Previously I shared ideas for our entry and living room. This week, since laundry has been on my mind, I thought it would be fitting to show you the laundry room where I’ve been spending time.
It’s already one of my favorite spaces, and I’m excited about updating it.

Pros of this space:
- Durable, attractive tile floors
- Ample cabinet and counter space
- Two windows that provide natural light
- Large, workable room

Issues to address:
- The dryer needs repair or replacement
- The washer is on a pedestal that makes loading awkward for me
- Exposed plumbing in one section of the wall
- No laundry sink at the moment—one to consider adding
Ideas to consider for updates:
- Install new countertops for a refreshed work surface
- Update cabinet hardware to modernize the look
- Add millwork or trim to enhance character
- Improve lighting for both function and ambiance
- Create organized, attractive storage solutions
- Introduce charming accessories to personalize the space
- Incorporate a project area for crafts or household tasks
- Add a fun rug to bring warmth and color
- Replace mirrored closet doors for a cleaner look
Cosmetically the room is already welcoming, which made moving in much easier. There are many small updates we can make right away to put our stamp on it, and other changes that can come later.
Another asset is the tiled hallway that leads to the laundry room from the lower family room and garage—this connects a bathroom and the laundry area and opens up additional possibilities.

The hallway is useful extra space that could extend the laundry room’s function with hooks, cabinetry, or a drop zone.

I love that the hallway gives more wall space for organizing and decorating—plenty of chances to personalize the area and add useful storage.

The existing paint is a pleasant gray-blue, and I plan to keep it for now while I focus on improving function. The wiring for sconces is already in place, which gives great options for layered lighting and visual interest.
I’ve collected inspiration images for how this laundry room could evolve. These examples highlight practical storage, attractive finishes, and creative layouts that we might mix and match to create the perfect, family-friendly laundry and craft space. What ideas stand out to you? Enjoy the photos and imagine the possibilities.

I’m tempted by the idea of colored washer and dryer units—they can make the room feel playful and stylish.
