Sideyard Renovation Progress: Before and After Updates

Progress

And so it begins! I’m excited to share that our side yard project is finally underway. Just before work started we noticed something we hadn’t paid attention to before: this side yard actually has a lovely view. I’m not sure why we missed it previously—maybe because we were always looking down to avoid tripping on the way to the backyard. It felt like a happy discovery, and it changed how we see the space. Instead of just a pass-through, it’s becoming a destination we’ll want to linger in.

Carson Wall Sconce - Matte Gray Outdoor Barn Light Wall Sconce from Rejuvenation

I’m already imagining a few special design touches for this area. One piece we’ve ordered is a Carson wall sconce from Rejuvenation for the back porch, which will sit beside the future Dutch door. Lighting like this will help make the porch feel welcoming and purposeful. I’ll share more of our exterior design ideas as the project progresses.

With big renovation projects there’s often that phrase, “it gets worse before it gets better,” but so far the opposite has felt true for us. Removing the old concrete immediately improved the space—suddenly it felt brighter and more open. That immediate change has been encouraging and has made us even more excited to keep moving forward.
